Abstract | This document contains abstracts or manuscripts of 29 presentations examining the problem of how to cope with inflation and how best to deal with resource shortages, both of which might become even more acute in the future. Conference speakers viewed the problem from various perspectives, among them (1) consumer characteristics, attitudes, and needs, (2) status of consumer action and education programs, (3) career opportunities in consumer affairs, and (4) impact of specific resource shortages, such as food and electricity. Several speeches taking a mathematical approach covered topics such as "Levels of Family Financial Management Functioning--A Multivariate Analysis," and "A Framework for Analyzing the Effects of Interest Rates on Purchases of Consumer Variables."
