Abstract | Covering the period of June 1973 to May 1975, this report describes and evaluates a comprehensive K-12 career education program in the Somersworth schools in New Hampshire. The goals of the project were to increase (1) self-awareness, (2) decision making skills, and (3) awareness, exploration, and experience in a variety of career areas. The problem area is defined, project design and procedures are described, and specific results as related to each objective are presented along with conclusions and recommendations. Appended is a 23-page catalog of printed materials, audiovisuals, and equipment resources collected by the project and made available in the career education resources center. Also appended is a third party evaluation (74 pages) of the last year's accomplishments, including recommendations relative to program continuation and a discussion of some problems involved in evaluation of the project. An item by item analysis of teacher responses to a career education questionnaire with selected comments appears. The major portion of the evaluation is a review of the program goals and objectives with the evaluator's comments and recommendations. Teacher questionnaires are appended, along with reports on a career mathematics course, a cooperative school/business community program, and a program to improve student self-concept. A listing of brief descriptions of industrial arts offerings completes the document. (NJ) |
