Abstract | The monograph provides a descriptive case study and an evaluation of innovative aspects of the adult education system developed in the Dominican Republic under the sponsorship of Radio Santa Maria. The specific focus is on the attempts to implement some of the elements of "lifelong education" in the context of a country undergoing relatively rapid socio-economic development. A brief section describes the educational systems in the Dominican Republic and the dilemmas faced if attempts to achieve present educational goals and goals of a balanced socio-economic development must be based on traditional educational methods. The case study of the Santa Maria model of radiophonic schools details composition of the student body, the curriculum, the educational methodology, the duties of the field teacher and student, the approaches of Radio Santa Maria in introducing the radiophonic schools, the system of field supervision, and the structure of central administration. The results of the evaluation are then presented. Finally, a summary evaluation of the innovative aspects of the Santa Maria model is given. (HAB) |
