| Abstract | Because multimedia presentations are used to communicate diverse ideas, and because they employ mixtures of art forms, they have resisted systematic criticism. An attempt has been made to systematize criticism of multimedia presentations by using a variety of typologies to look at the style and structure of the presentation, its value to the audience, and the critic's personal reactions. By uniting the taxonomies of traditional schools of criticism with the philosophies of aesthetics and theories of mass media, a definition was synthesized for the role of multimedia critic, and formats for systematic criticisms were formulated. Future research should use this organizational framework to further examine how media format affects perception and learning. (EMH) |
