| Abstract | This publication lists more than 2,000 pseudonyms used by modern Chinese authors who have lived and published in the twentieth century. About sixty percent reside or resided in Mainland China, twenty-five percent lived in Taiwan, and about fifteen percent lived in Singapore and other overseas areas. Pseudonyms and real names are arranged alphabetically according to romanized names in two separate lists. Cross references are made to authors using more than one pseudonym. The Chinese characters of the author's name are supplied in parentheses. Dates of birth and death are given when known. Possible reasons for the frequent use of pseudonyms are that an author wished to remain anonymous, editors used them to show respect to the author, pseudonyms are used to conceal the fact of multiple authorship of articles for one magazine, or pseudonyms were used for political reasons.
