| Abstract | This survey of state interscholastic athletic associations reveals the prevalence of such associations and the broad scope of their activities. It indicates that all states but Maine and Vermont have interscholastic athletic associations. The information for this report was obtained by sending a questionnaire to the executive directors of state school boards associations in May 1975. The report contains information on the following: (1) frequency of interscholastic athletic associations; (2) supervision by state departments of education; (3) state legislation pertaining to interscholastic athletic associations; (4) activities supervised by interscholastic athletic associations; (5) authority to determine athletic conferences or leagues; (6) authority to determine student eligibility requirements; (7) insurance programs; (8) interscholastic tournaments; (9) governance; (10) financing; (11) significance of membership; (12) appeal procedures; (13) women on governing boards; (14) coeducational teams; and (15) rules regulating coaching.
