AbstractThis booklet presents a set of secondary-level classroom strategies for examining American history in light of the issues identified by the American Issues Forum. Emphasis is on examination of the role and actions of the President of the United States. These materials, called modules, form Part II of the topic, "A More Perfect Union: The American Government." Data and descriptive analyses on a broad range of topics are contained in the report, as are questions and topics for discussion on each subject. Among topics included are the following: a description of the president's actions during a typical two-week period; the text of a proclamation by the president on United Nations Day; a column by Art Buchwald on Richard Nixon; a presentation and examination of the Articles of Impeachment in the Constitution; a section of the Congressional Record dealing with impeachment; the text of President Ford's pardon of Nixon; information on presidential decision making; a definition and disucssion of the federal bureaucracy; and a discussion of and some samples taken from the Federal Reigster. Input from teachers and students is requested because the materials are presented in field-test form and can be modified before they are produced as a final set of strategies. An evaluation form for the set of modules is included. (Author/DB)
