| Abstract | This document is designed to review the general provisions of various sources of student financial aid (federal, state, and private) and, to explain the operating procedures of the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant Program. This document is essential, since the Basic Grant Program is based on the concept of entitlement. It is necessary that all potentially eligible students be made aware of the availability of this source of assistance. This document also provides: (1) a general description of the "campus-based" programs that are also sponsored by the Office of Education; (2) general information on the calculation of awards; (3) operational aspects of the Basic Grant Program; (4) sample forms and case examples; (5) a directory which lists names and addresses of persons to contact for information on federal and state sources of student financial aid; and (6) an index to the handbook.
