Abstract | The teacher's guide is the second of three developed for primary and early intermediate levels. The learning experiences focus on helping the student to develop an understanding of the family as an economic unit and of money as a medium of exchange that facilitates trade; to identify ways of earning, saving, and spending money; to recognize the roles of banking and bank workers in our society; to appreciate the priority families must place on satisfying basic economic needs; and to discover ways family members can minimize their own and others' expenses. The career education elements emphasized in the guide are general economic and career awareness, economic attitudes and appreciations, beginning economic and decision-making skills, and educational awareness. Subject areas for which the materials in the guide have potential are social studies and mathematics. Each set of learning experiences contains a student objective, set overview, resource list, teacher-preparation tasks, learning activities, and suggestions for evaluation-summary activities. Activity-coordinated resource materials include worksheets and evaluation materials. (Author/NJ) |
