Abstract | The Advanced Simulator for Undergraduate Pilot Training (ASUPT) was designed to investigate the role of simulation in the future Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) program. The Automated Instructional System designed for the ASUPT simulator was described in this report. The development of the Automated Instructional System for ASUPT was based upon the research requirements for: (1) malfunction insertion, (2) variation of task difficulty, (3) performance feedback, (4) demonstration and replay, (5) data recording, (6) instructor feedback, and (7) maneuver sequencing. The system provided the instructor with the information necessary to exert simulator control and a variety of hardware and software instructional capability; as such, the system presented one of the most important elements of ASUPT.
