| Abstract | This publication is intended to serve as a guide for teachers introducing the metric system to elementary and secondary school students. Suggestions are based upon the premise that students learn best when totally involved in activities using the metric system, with few comparisons to our traditional English system of measurement. The booklet includes: a statement of the need for metric instruction, a summary of metric terminology, a list of advantages of the metric system, a set of relevant behavioral objectives, and some specific teaching suggestions. References and a list of addresses from which to obtain additional metric teaching materials are included. (CR) |
