| Abstract | This manual is designed for use in inservice work with teachers preparing to use the Comprehensive School Mathematics Program (CSMP) in grades K-2, and as a resource guide for later use. In it, the nonstandard topics used in the CSMP primary program are developed through discussion and a variety of exercises. These topics include the minicomputer and its relation to standard algorithms, classification and string diagrams, relations and arrow diagrams, combinatorics and probability, and geometry. Advice concerning lesson plans, spiral development of the material, and the use of language in connection with strings, arrows, and the minicomputer is offered. Answers to all exercises are provided in a separate section. (SD) |
