Abstract | Most people are raised in a traditional environment which teaches that someone-winning implies that someone-loses. However, psychology and the examples provided in the Watergate scandal demonstrate that such a philosophy is neither productive nor beneficial. A "win-win" philosophy of cooperation, not competition, is needed for individuals to function well in a society where teamwork is needed. This change of philosophy can be accomplished by employing a form of rhetoric developed by Carl Rogers. Students should recognize that within their classes and for the world problems the need is for cooperation. (WH) |
