| Abstract | This informal manual was designed to reinforce the counselor's efforts in career education guidance by offering the student materials that are realistic and current. The student is expected to accept much responsibility for his career and lifestyle development through activities and questionnaires. Part one is directed toward self-evaluation utilizing a personal inventory checklist. Part two offers a quick survey of the working world, discussing monetary factors, values, and the rewards of work. Part three offers a deeper look into the working world considering the following topics: (1) researching how others decide on their life work, (2) an insider looks at his occupation--the private language--jargon, (3) formal and informal aspects of occupations, (4) tracing an occupational cluster, (5) how occupations fit in, and (6) job factors such as union membership, high-risk careers, etc. Part four deals with current changes in work attitudes such as male-versus-female job attitudes, significance of part-time jobs in career development, job obsolescence, homemaking as a career, the specifics of job-hunting, and the significance of job-satisfaction.
