Abstract	The lecture on Alexander Graham Bell by Dr. Robert V. Bruce, the author of a biography of Bell, focuses on Bell's association with the Clarke School for the Deaf in Massachusetts. Noted are Bell's employment by the school at 25 years of age and the preceding period during which Bell taught elocution at a boys' school in Scotland and used his father's system of Visible Speech at a London school for the deaf. Also described are his early commitment to lipreading and the oral approach to deaf education, his development of the telephone as a byproduct of his inventions to aid deaf students, his lifelong involvement in problems of the deaf, his marriage to a deaf woman, his financial support of schools for the deaf, his support of partial integration of deaf students with hearing students, his controversies with Edward Gallaudet, his investigations into the heritability of deafness, his role in directing Helen Keller's father to the Perkins Institution, his correspondence with Helen Keller, his interest in heavier-than-air flight, his service on the Board of Governors of the Clarke School, and his death in 1922.
