| Abstract | Guidelines and readings for an interdisciplinary course in biology and government adapt as a semester or year course for an entire class, independent study, or for teacher resource materials. An attitude questionnaire, list of suggested projects, and reading and writing assignments constitute the guidelines. The content first considers the historical background of the present environmental crisis and the communication methods used for influencing consumer attitudes. Basic concepts of ecology are summarized and problems of overpopulation appraised. Finally, the validity of some proposed treatments of earth's environmental problems are analyzed and approaches to student and citizen action related to planning for the future. A reader accompanying the guidelines contains several short readings for each unit of the course. (Author/KSM) |
