| Abstract | A survey was made of the use of time by 33 librarians and library assistants primarily concerned with book processing in the City of London Polytechnic's library. The purposes of the study were to obtain: 1) time and cost data for various library processes, and 2) information on the activities of the library staff involved. It was concluded that the survey provided useful data for the analysis of present operations and for future planning, that the data would be of interest to other libraries, and that the results suggest other useful investigations. A description is provided of the survey's design, procedures and analytical techniques and detailed time and cost data which relate to over 100 specific library tasks are listed. (PB) |
