Abstract | The Appalachian Adult Education Center (AAEC) is a practical assistance center for improving practices in adult basic education, carrying out research, training, and demonstrations in a thirteen-state region. In its dissemination of findings, the Center publishes limited numbers of materials for adult education practitioners; this is an annotated listing of materials published since its establishment in 1967. Over half of the 149 titles reflect four of the major components of the Center's work: adult basic education, the ABE teacher, ABE and public libraries, and the AAEC itself. Other topics covered are: methods of recruitment and retention; means of delivery including the use of community schools for centers, mobile units, home delivery, and media backup; curriculum and materials; and the guidance and counseling of adult students, including a handbook of services and a report on the use of paraprofessional aides. Many of the materials, especially in the sections on Appalachia, aging, and follow-up, are out-of-print. Two works on evaluation of adult student progress are listed. (Author/AJ) |
