Abstract | This report discusses consultation as a process of assessment, defining, implementing, and evaluating. Within the context of institutional change, these steps are useful in viewing the policies and procedures that make up the institution's functional environment, the institution's social environment, and the institution's physical environment. These steps are interrelated in a presentation of a Consultation Design for Mental Health Services. In a series of scenarios, the report illustrates the use of the consultation design model for interventions at the individual, group, institutional, and community levels. It also becomes apparent in the scenarios that the model can speak to modes of prevention, remediation, or enhancement of conditions within the institution that affect its members' educational and life goals.
