Abstract | This document is a report on an experiment in institutional change as related to team teaching and governance initiated at Rockland Junior High School. The document is divided into two sections: description and results. Part one indicates that low student morale, absenteeism, discipline, and vandalism prompted the principal and staff to adopt a team-teaching format that ultimately led to restructuring the school and, in fact, turning control of the junior high school over to the teachers. The description details the changes and procedures involved, including the adoption of an experimental curriculum, a six-day cycle, and five "schools within a school." Part two presents tables and statistics detailing the results of the project, which included a reduction in student absentees, vandalism, and suspension. (JA) |
