| Abstract | Statistics on brodcast and production hours of public television stations and licensees in the United States, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa for fiscal year 1971 are compiled. The major objective is to provide the public boadcasting community--including legislators, administrators, and researchers, as well as the communications industry as a whole--with essential quantitative information. Material is given for 193 stations owned and operated by 126 licensees and covers public television licensees and stations, total broadcast hours, weekly broadcast hours by day of week, broadcast hours by source of programing, and production hours. Six graphs, 33 summary tables, and 24 detailed tables are used to convey the information. Five appendixes deal with public television licensees, computations of broadcast hours, questionnaire items, public television stations which came on the air prior to or during 1971, and broadcast and production statistics for these new entries. Data were collected by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting by means of a survey questionnaire sent to station managers and directors of licensees. (Author/PB) |
