AbstractThis study is concerned with an analysis of similarities and differences in role expectations among the populations of principals, teachers, superintendents, and board members in two suburban school districts in Oregon. It attempts to identify the levels of agreement within each of these populations regarding the principal's role in decisionmaking, ascertain the extent to which principals are accurate in their perceptions of the views of others, determine the extent of accuracy of the perceptions of others for the views of principals, and summarize the role of the school principal in decisionmaking according to consensus regarding specific behaviors presented in a role norm inventory. The author concludes that principals, superintendents, and board members are not yet willing to involve teachers in the decisionmaking role of the principal, even though teachers may want to be involved.
