| Abstract | This study reports on salaries paid the full-time professional staff of public school systems. Data on the numbers of men and women in all major professional areas (including teachers), other instructional staff, and central office personnel are given, as well as salary information for most instructional positions. Salary data for central office personnel have been excluded as a cost effective measure. National estimates of mean and median salaries; and salary distributions for teachers, principals, assistant principals, counselors, librarians, school nurses, and other members of the instructional staff are shown in summary tabulations. In addition, system-by-system listings of reporting systems with enrollments of 25,000 or more are included. Salary data covering all of the approximately 16,425 school systems operating in 1972-73 are incorporated in the survey. Related documents are ED 056 379 and ED 056 398. (Author) |
