Abstract | This document provides a guide for the initiation, development, and evaluation of Iranian public library service. It is intended for use by Iranian librarians, library boards, government officials, and interested citizens. Its sections contain numerous guiding principles which are the standards. Each standard provides a measure of achievement or a guiding principle of good policy. The standards are relatively objective, observable, and at least in a broad sense, quantitative. Only those standards are included which have a direct and positive relation to the quality of Iranian public library facilities and services. It should be possible for librarians, library boards, or interested citizens to go through the document, sentence by sentence, and measure their own library by answering "yes", to this standard, "no" to that, "maybe" or "partially" to others. When honest answers are affirmative for a majority of the standards, libraries are well on the way to giving good quality service. (LI 004244 through 004266 are related.) (Author) |
