AbstractEducational materials on the manufacture and use of aluminum are assembled in this multi-media unit for use by junior high and secondary school students. Student booklets and brochures include: "The Story of Aluminum,""Uses of Aluminum,""Independent Study Guide for School Research Projects,""Questions and Answers About Litter, Solid Waste, and Recycling," and "The Solid Waste Crisis." Two color filmstrips with cassette tapes for audible narration are entitled "Challenge and Change, A Story of Science and Technology" and "Recycling: An Ecology Study." The first tells how science developed and how it is related to technology, using the modern metal aluminum to illustrate the concepts presented. The second shows how nature's own method of reusing resources is being updated to recycle solid wastes. Teacher's guides accompanying each filmstrip print both the picture frames and associated narrative together with suggestions for follow-up projects, a bibliography of related literature, and additional sources of information. Also included in the kit are two wall charts tracing the production of aluminum, a list of aluminum can recycling centers in the United States, and an annotated catalog of films and filmstrips about the manufacture and use of aluminum.
