| Abstract | In a society that has traditionally emphasized the economic value of a college education, large numbers of college graduates in California are reporting great difficulty in finding employment, particularly during the past few years. The principal purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between projected college educated manpower needs in California and the supply of graduates in selected academic disciplines or fields of study from the state's 4 segments of higher education. Another important purpose of the study was to determine the extent to which projections of college and university graduates in selected occupations are expected to meet the state's manpower needs in terms of surpluses and shortages. The study was also designed to identify major state agencies and educational institutions within California that are charged with significant roles in manpower planning and development, a description of those roles and functions, and to determine their interrelationships.
