AbstractThis document presents summaries of speeches and discussions held at the conference on changing patterns for undergraduate education sponsored in May 1972 by Harvard University and the College Entrance Examination Board. Participants from more than 100 colleges met at the conference to discuss the following questions: What is the perception of change in process and in prospect from the viewpoint of responsible college administrators? Is there any commonly shared sense of direction and purpose in the changes enveloping the bachelor's degree program? Are the major changes recommended by the Carnegie Commission, in particular the recommendation for a 3-year degree program, likely to be put into effect? How are college administrators responding to demands for independent study, interdisciplinary programs, work projects and experience, removal of distribution requirements, and so forth? What is the perception of the role and function of the bachelor's degree program, the litmus against which the assorted impulses for change ought to be tested? Speeches presented at the conference include: "Directions in Undergraduate Education,""A Collegiate Year in Secondary School,""Shortening and Varying Undergraduate Degree Programs," and "Access and Transition in Higher Education."
