| Abstract | Developed for elementary science studies, this unit on man and environment requires student involvement in discovery, observation, gathering and recording data, and problem solving. A series of 19 booklets, each designed as an activity which can be completed out-of-doors, comprise this student packet of materials. Topics studied in the activities include: adaptation, communities, consumers, decomposers and decomposition, food chains, habitat, hearing, land use, marshes, nutrients, producers, profit (land values), and wetlands. Each booklet tells the student what he will study, what he should be able to do, what he needs to know, what materials he needs, and how to do the activity. Questions to answer and questions to think about as well as other ways to do the activity are listed. To summarize all the topics of study, a story is written about community concern and planning for an environmental issue. This set of materials was field tested in the spring of 1972 by the Wisconsin Research and Development Center for Cognitive Learning. (BL) |
