| Abstract | This study measured the effectiveness of mothers conducting a structured visual perception program with their children under the training and direction of the investigator. The subjects were four- and five-year-old children in an inner-city school district who were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups and tested on the Frostig Developmental Test of Visual Perception, the Metropolitan Readiness Test, and the Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test. Results showed that the experimental group made significant gains on the Frostig Test in comparison to the control group, but not on the Metropolitan or Bender tests. This finding suggests that training on the Frostig program did not transfer to another visual perception test or to the measure of academic readiness. The study does conclude that parents, when trained and supervised, can effectively use structured training programs with their children. (Author/DI) |
