| Abstract | The primary purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between student and supervisor evaluations of the effectiveness of general business teachers. A secondary purpose was to identify qualities of effective general business teachers through the use of a performance specimen checklist and a rating scale. The population of the study consisted of 30 general business teachers in selected East Tennessee high schools, their immediate supervisors, and their general business students. Among the findings were: (1) There was no significant relationship between years of teaching experience and teaching effectiveness in general business as evaluated by students, (2) There was a significant relationship between number of years of teaching experience and scores assigned by immediate supervisors of general business teachers, (3) There was no significant relationship between years of outside work experience and teaching effectiveness, (4) There was a significant relationship between student evaluations and immediate supervisor evaluations of teaching effectiveness, and (5) There are distinguishing characteristics that differentiate between effective and ineffective teachers.
