AbstractThis eighth, ninth, or tenth grade year-long economic education course is written from the viewpoint of the individual as a worker/income-earner. Its primary purpose is to provide the schools with a means for improving the preparation of young people for effective participation in the changing economy. The educational objectives are: 1) to develop an understanding of the economic process and the role of work; and, 2) to explain how students can enhance their future employability, productivity, earnings, and work satisfaction by investing in the development of their own knowledge, skills, motivation, and behavior patterns. The course consists of 75 separate lessons averaging four pages in length. Each lesson begins with an abstract outlining the central topic or concept to be studied, followed by the main text with questions to be answered in writing or in class discussion. In addition, statistical charts and tables are provided to enable the student to test assertions or conclusions against empirical facts. A summary paragraph racapitulates and emphasizes the most essential understandings the students should have learned. These instructional materials were tested in eight Ohio schools during the fall semester of the 1967-68 school year. (Author/AWW)
