| Abstract | Comparatively little is known about the sheer scale and diversity of the task facing adult educators in developing countries. This book, written by a number of distinguished adult education specialists with first-hand experience of the countries they describe, is designed to help fill the gap in knowledge. Detailed studies of the structure, deficiencies, and future of the system of adult education in a cross-section of developing countries include examples from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Ocean Territories. There is an introductory chapter stressing the importance of adult education as an instrument of national development and indicating common themes and distinctive innovations.
