Abstract	Both assessment and remediation of primary and secondary behavioral handicaps to learning are discussed, and a classification of behavior styles detrimental to learning, based upon observation of the child's behavior in learning situations, is presented. Primary learning-handicaps are defined as aspects of impairment of temperament which are in evidence in the child's general behavior. Failure arising either from the primary handicaps or from cultural disadvantagement is said to cause secondary behavioral handicaps called pseudo-adjustments (avoidances and compensations). How such learning disabilities may amount to a de facto retardation or pseudo-retardation is pointed out. Techniques of assessment and remediation are reviewed. A Guide to the Recording of the Child's Behavior in the Learning Situation is presented, in which the unproductive learning-strategies are grouped under 14 headings. The form, allowing the teacher to rate the child's behavior in each area according to three degrees of severity, serves as a profile of faulty learning styles. (KW)
