Abstract | This is the second volume in an annual series which collects, catalogues, analyzes, and compresses basic information intended to help improve foreign language instruction in America. The review, covering all levels of instruction, primarily concerns itself with the process of individualizing instruction and takes into account the contributions of psychology, linguistics, sociology, and other relevant areas of scholarship. Topics covered in the 12 chapters include: (1) introduction, (2) individualization and personalization of foreign language instruction, (3) behavioral objectives and evaluation, (4) strategies of instruction for listening and reading, (5) strategies of instruction for speaking and writing, (6) curricula for individualized instruction, (7) media in foreign language teaching, (8) language learning laboratory, (9) trends in teacher education and certification, (10) classical studies, (11) teaching of English as a second language, and (12) language enrollment trends.
