Abstract | The Experimental Projects Branch of the Department of Manpower and Immigration contracted with the McGill University Industrial Relations Center to assess the bearing of the social science literature upon work and educational organizations and, in particular, their relevance to the construction of training programs. This paper presents a summary and analysis of the larger and more detailed studies made under this contract. Included in these larger studies are examinations of (1) the nature of modern society, (2) resocialization, (3) retraining as mobility, (4) role perspectives on retraining, (5) rewards, and (6) some models of retraining organizations. Recommendations based on the literature review are made regarding the community background, the program or school in action, and the future of work. Four related documents are available as VT 011 591-011 594. (Author/JS) |
