| Abstract | This study, conducted at the Malloy Catholic College for Women, presents a redesigned program for liberal arts speech majors. It (1) reviews current literature dealing with the role of women in American society, (2) considers the place of Speech within the liberal arts college both as an academic discipline and a liberal art, (3) examines the factors affecting the development of a new curriculum--i.e., electronic media, the felt needs of alumnae and students, and the trends in Speech education, (4) surveys recent publications on curriculum planning (5) evaluates the present Speech curriculum at Malloy College, and (6) describes the new curriculum which consists of 30 required hours of study (18 prescribed-12 elective) in such courses as Communicative Speaking and Listening, Discussion in a Democratic Society, Freedom of Speech and Man, Media and Society, History of the Theater, Voice and Speech Science, and Creative Dramatics.
