| Abstract | The amateur movie camera differs from a still camera on several important points. The author explores these differences and discusses the various ways they may be used to advantage. He describes in detail the workings of basic equipment--cameras, exposure meters, lenses, films, and lights--and demonstrates the proper use of each. Techniques such as planning, scripting, timing, cutting, and editing are discussed with a view to obtaining the desired overall effect. Some tips are offered on shooting such subjects as children and animals and such occasions as vacations, weddings, or sporting events. The author advances to the more difficult skills of color filming, panning or tracking, filming indoors, trick filming, and making titles. He explains how to splice, cut, edit, and pace the final edition of a film for a smooth and interesting effect. His discussion of the proper way to show the completed film includes advice on choosing and using projectors and screens. (JY) |
