Abstract | This handbook explains major demographic techniques which can be used by developing countries to estimate total population and to make projections of population changes. The data were devised for field analysts who have limited mathematical and statistical backgrounds. Anyone with a knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and some algebra will be able to use the methods in the handbook. Several methods for estimating demographic techniques are presented. The choice of the particular method depends upon the availability and reliability of basic data, time involved in undertaking different computations, mathematical and statistical skill of the investigator, and the level of reliability prescribed for a particular estimate. A case study on the Fiji Islands and a selected bibliography are included in the report. (BC) |
