Abstract | Research conducted during 1968 and 1969 concerning the Minneapolis Indian population is examined in an attempt to describe their characteristics; their relationship to major urban institutions; their employment, health, and housing; and justice, public welfare, and public institutions as related to the Indian. Inequities in the relationship between the community and its Indian residents are examined. Three major problems are focused on in the report: (1) obtaining specific knowledge about urban Indians, (2) application of such knowledge, and (3) inadequate understanding and mistrust of agencies by the Indian. Suggestions are made to remedy these problems. (BD) |
