Abstract | A 5-year project to develop public health services for migrant workers was initiated in Florida in 1956. The project staff consisted of 8 public health personnel: 2 public health nurses, a public health educator, a public health nutritionist, a medical social worker, a part-time sanitarian, a liaison worker, and a secretary. Two practicing physicians (a pediatrician and a general practicioner) served as medical consultants in the clinical activities of the project. The data were collected by personal interviews and observations although the study aspects of the project were secondary to the service functions. Project activities included a survey of 320 migrant housing establishments in western Palm Beach County, family medical examinations and treatment, maternity education and care programs, and a dental survey. This monograph presents a detailed description of the project, its activities, and findings. (SF) |
