Abstract | This is a study of four projects in New York City which were established with federal grants to offer library service to the disadvantaged in the area. The four programs studied are the Preschool Project of the Brooklyn Public Library, the Community Coordinator Project of the Brooklyn Public Library, the North Manhattan Project of the New York Public Library, and Operation Head Start of the Queens Borough Public Library. The study was undertaken to determine (1) the effect of the projects on the communities served and on the library staff, (2) modifications of the projects which could improve service to th disadvantaged and, (3) the impact and relevance of training auxiliary personnel to work in the projects.
