Abstract	Talking about sports as a general theoretical concept forces us to enter a dense terrain of polysemy. Sport was identified as a specific theoretical entity by Hippocrates twenty-five centuries ago (Toscano, 2011) and since then it has been developing, gaining a leading role in the society of the XX century. Sport forms a field itself as Bourdieu (1984) explained three decades ago and so it is required to be catalogued. This is the reason why it is necessary to write a Sport Thesaurus. What is needed in order to achieve this objective is a work group with researchers, academicians and technicians coming from different disciplinary fields, mainly Physical Education and Sport, with the possibility of including researchers coming from other thematic areas related to the field of Sport. This work introduces some theoretical-conceptual definitions of Sport focusing on the aspects of the word, exploring traditional definitions centred in a physical approach and the Social and Anthropological focus developed during the XX century, such as the peculiarities of the production area of assorted meanings and the ampleness of synonyms of the field of Sport. ; Hablar de deporte como concepto teórico general obliga a adentrarse en un tupido terreno de polisemias. El deporte fue identificado como entidad teórica específica por Hipócrates hace 25 siglos (Toscano, 2011), y desde ese momento se ha venido desarrollando, cobrado un rol protagónico en las sociedades del siglo XX. El deporte conforma un campo propio, tal como ya lo explicitara Bourdieu (1984) hace tres décadas, y es por ello que requiere ser catalogado, mediante la construcción de un Tesauro de Deportes. Para el logro de este objetivo, se requiere un trabajo conjunto entre investigadores, académicos y técnicos que provengan de diferentes campos disciplinares, principalmente de la Educación Física y el Deporte, con la posibilidad de inclusión de investigadores que provienen de otras áreas temáticas que se relacionan con el campo del deporte. Este trabajo presenta algunas definiciones teórico-conceptuales del deporte poniendo el foco en las dimensiones del término, haciendo un recorrido desde las tradicionales definiciones centradas en una mirada física del deporte hasta las definiciones más sociales y antropológicas construidas en el siglo XX, tales como la lectura crítica a Bourdieu (1984) cuando se refiere a las peculiaridades del ámbito de producción de esos significados variados y de aquella abundancia de sinonimias del campo del deporte.
