Abstract | Special characteristics of the German system of vocational education and training (VET) are the growing importance of academic vocational training as well as the decrease of significance of the "Dual System". Full-time vocational schools offer a good alternative to the classical training in the "Dual System". For that purpose the state of Baden-Württemberg implemented the vocational college (Berufskolleg) in the mid 1970s. Its aim was the retrieval of various forms of vocational training. The social functions of the vocational college (Berufskolleg) are based on parallelism resp. complementarity of occupational qualification (Staatlich geprüfter Wirtschaftsassistent) and entitlements (Fachhochschulreife). Besides the possibility of a dual qualification by the vocational qualification- and entitlement-function, the vocational colleges have to fulfil further functions (vocational orientation and vocational preparation as well as buffer function and parking function). The study evaluates to what extend the vocational college fulfils its social function and contributes to the solution of social problems. Furthermore it will be analysed whether the didactical-curricular concepts of the vocational college live up to the expectations of the social function. |
