Abstract | The chapter deals with feminism as a theoretical and political movement starting from the mid-twentieth century and its significance for education. The reconstruction of the contemporary history of feminism according to equality feminism, difference feminism and gender feminism draws upon a canonisation that established itself within the feminist historiography of the 1990s and corresponds to the European and Anglo-American context. The second part reconstructs the process of institutionalisation of feminist theories and practices (especially in education and Bildung), taking into consideration the historical and social conditions, which shaped the knowledge-historical horizon of both feminism and the gender questions and were subsumed under three conceptions: human rights, post-colonialism and human capital.
