Abstract | "The major objective of this edited collection is to provide examinations of representative lines of theory and research on prosocial behavior as it occurs in the context of social groups. Specifically, [the editors] have sought to bring together contributions that focus on different levels of analyses... , and study different forms of helping... Moreover, since the study of group processes in prosocial behavior has both theoretical and practical potential, [they] have been especially keen to include not only contributions stimulating further theoretical development but also ones that deal explicitly with interventions designed to foster helping in the context of groups (and to improve its quality) in real-world settings." The first chapters "focus primarily on theoretical and empirical analyses addressing differences in the motivational foundations of helping in-group and out-group members." Part II of the volume revolves "more closely around the consequences of giving or receiving in the context of social groups and large organisations." Part III considers "strategies to promote prosocial behavior by targeting the concerns of individuals, groups, or organisations... The four chapters in the concluding part, Part IV, put the study of helping into a broader picture by linking it to more social structural or macro-level perspectives." (DIPF/Orig.). |
