Abstract | [The] research group developed training programmes for self-regulated learning from science texts which centre on reading for comprehension. Different levels of self-regulation have been identified, but as cognitive components are most directly related to learning outcome and achievement, this project concentrated on this aspect. The effects of the training programmes were assessed in experimental studies and, eventually, the programmes were implemented in science lessons. The findings of their studies emphasise that consistent application of self-regulated learning strategies at school supports students' competencies in reading for comprehension and learning from science texts.
