Abstract | The authors discuss students' language use in expressing their understanding of physical motion and the learning and use of language in relation to learning subject matter. They analyse different conceptions of language in philosophy and empirical research as well as they use their empirical findings to clarify the issue of language use in learning mechanics. They also argue for the need to take an agent perspective on the use of language and present arguments for a contextual view of learning, starting from the agent perspective. (DIPF/Orig.). |
