Abstract | The first part of this article informs about the state and circulation of educational information in Iran. Educational research institutes, faculties of education, library and documentation centres as well as media, scientific journals and educational databases and databanks are presented. In the second part the author takes the example of the new secondary education system to demonstrate the role information played in designing and implementing the system. The third part is on educational research activities and dissemination of research results. The author comes to the following conclusions: "For educational information in Iran there is much room for improvement with regard to the quality and dissemination of information produced. Research produced by the Ministry of Education is more utilized than that produced elsewhere. Information played an important role in the recent reform of the secondary education system. Educational research is just finding its place in the education system of Iran. It will be a long time before the 'culture of transparency and accountability' is assimilated through the education system. Such a culture would require the process of information supply to be linked to the decision-making process. The teaching of educational policy analysis at university level should be given more attention. Educational information produced by theses and dissertations should be abstracted and disseminated regularly. It must be made 'teacher/ administration (decision-maker) friendly' ".
