Abstract	The Czech Republic has been undergoing a process of social transformation since the beginning of the 1990s and is in a transitional phase in its political and economic development. Firstly, the author briefly reviews the role of information in educational transformation in the country in this context. Efforts to decentralize decision-making, enhance school autonomy and introduce systemic changes have gradually led to an understanding of the role of 'support systems'. Therefore the first main section of this case study focuses on specific aspects of the information system, research and dissemination. The second section examines the formation of fundamental structural and quantitative changes in the field of educational policy, and the concluding third section demonstrates the transformation of the Czech education system with examples of research projects illustrating the relationship between research work and educational policy.
