Abstract | In the present stage of the European Union construction, the questions regarding education are becoming more and more important, hence the remarkable interest which, in my option, this book about Educational Policy in Europe after Maastricht. It is a work in which there is an important scholar contribution to the study of a topic which, being so significant for the future of the European Union, needs a definite clarification in order to define exactly the scope of the competencies in education matters should be executed by the European Community, and therefore to precise the incidence that the application of the principle of subsidiarity will have in the interplay of these competencies. No doubt, the debate arosen by the European educational policy after the Maastricht Treaty focuses mainly on the question of determining the meaning and content from which the Community action in this sphere must be promoted in such a way that, while encouraging a determined and operative Community action in this sphere must be operative Community planning - able to make the significance of a "European Identity" spread - there is a strict respect, from the European institutions, for the competencies and responsibilities preserved by the states in this field.
